How do I grow and dry statice properly to keep the colour for the dried market?

For good dried statice, harvest at the right stage when most of the small flowers on the head are open but still fresh, because too early gives poor colour and too late gives shattering. Cut long stems, remove excess lower leaves, tie in small loose bunches and hang them upside down in a dry, airy, shaded place out of direct sun, since sunlight fades the colour. Good air movement and low humidity during drying prevent mould and keep the colour bright. Avoid drying in a damp room. The colour holding is statice's selling point, so handle gently. For your local humidity, ask other dried flower growers or your KVK what drying setup works best, because in humid areas you may need extra ventilation or gentle warmth.
