Safed Musli is planted with fleshy root tubers around the start of the monsoon, roughly June, and the roots are dug after the leaves dry down in the cool season, around 8 to 10 months later, usually November to January. So it is a single season crop, not multi year. Fresh root yield is commonly in the range of a few quintals per acre, but the figure that matters is dry peeled musli, which is far less because peeling and drying cause heavy loss, often only around 15 to 20 percent of fresh weight survives as finished dry product. So treat fresh yield numbers given by sellers with caution. Keep back a part of your tubers as next year planting material since fresh tubers are the costliest input. Confirm yield expectations with a local grower in your area, not with the person selling you tubers.
