Jassids (leafhoppers) suck sap from the underside of okra and brinjal leaves, causing the leaf margins to curl down, yellow and finally bronze in what farmers call hopper burn. Scout the undersides regularly and act when you see the tiny wedge shaped green hoppers, because heavy attack badly cuts yield. Hairy or tolerant okra varieties suffer less, and yellow sticky traps help monitor numbers. If spraying is needed, use a recommended insecticide as per the label, rotate modes of action and respect the pre harvest interval, especially on okra where you pick frequently. Get the exact chemical and dose confirmed from your KVK or the product label, and avoid spraying close to picking.

In my bhindi the hopper burn always starts when it gets hot and dry. Choosing a slightly hairy variety made a clear difference for me this year.

In Rajasthan my okra gets hopper burn every hot dry spell just like others said. A slightly hairy variety and not letting the crop go water stressed reduced the curling for me.

One caution on okra: since you pick every two or three days, mind the pre harvest interval strictly. I now scout undersides with a lens and spot treat early instead of full cover sprays close to picking.

Yellow sticky traps helped me see the jassids building before the leaf edges started curling and bronzing. Catching them early on a tolerant hairy variety meant I rarely needed a full cover spray.
