I have medium black soil. Will Safed Musli grow well and how much water does it need?

Safed Musli wants well drained, loose, sandy loam to medium black soil rich in organic matter. The biggest killer is waterlogging, which rots the tubers, so raised beds and good drainage are essential, especially in heavy black soil during monsoon. It grows mainly on monsoon moisture with a few protective irrigations if there is a long dry spell, and again light irrigation in the cool season as the crop matures. Add plenty of well rotted farmyard manure or compost before planting because root quality and size improve a lot with organic matter. Avoid heavy fresh manure or excess nitrogen which gives leafy growth and poor roots. Mulching keeps soil cool and moist. If your field holds water after rain, fix drainage first or skip this crop.
Raised beds saved my crop. The year I planted on flat land the tubers rotted in heavy rain. Drainage is everything for musli.
