What climate suits Himsagar mango and where is it mainly grown?

Himsagar is the premier mango of West Bengal, centred on Murshidabad, Malda and Nadia, and it carries a GI tag. It is prized for thick, fibreless, very aromatic orange pulp and a small stone, and is considered one of the best table and dessert mangoes in the east. It suits the hot subtropical Gangetic plain with a dry flowering spell; humid wet flowering weather raises anthracnose and reduces set. It is an early to mid season variety, ripening around late May into June. The downside is a short shelf life and softness, so it is more challenging to transport long distances than Chausa, and it tends to alternate bear. Commercially it does very well in its home belt with strong regional demand and a growing export interest; for distant sale, careful harvest at firm-mature stage and good cold chain are essential.
