What makes Dasheri mango special and when does it ripen in Malihabad?

Dasheri is the signature mango of the Malihabad belt of UP and carries a GI tag (Malihabad Dasheri). It is prized for its sweet, fibreless, aromatic pulp and elongated shape, and for being a heavy bearer. The famous mother tree is said to be at Dasheri village near Malihabad, and many local trees trace to it. In the UP plains Dasheri typically ripens around late June into July, a bit later than the Konkan Alphonso season, so it catches the mid to late market. It tends toward alternate bearing and needs good hopper, anthracnose and fruit fly management.
