Atemoya is a hybrid of cherimoya and sugar apple (custard apple family), giving a fruit that is sweeter and with fewer seeds than ordinary custard apple, and it commands a premium price. It suits warm subtropical to tropical climates similar to custard apple, doing well on well-drained soil, and is being tried by progressive growers in parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka and the south. The catch is pollination, atemoya often sets poorly on its own and usually needs hand pollination for good, well-shaped fruit, which adds labour. It is grown from grafted plants of named varieties. It is still a niche, emerging crop in India with limited planting material and a small premium market. Confirm suitability, variety and a genuine grafted plant source for Ahmednagar with your KVK or a horticulture university.

It is a better-tasting custard apple but you must hand pollinate for proper fruit.

It is like a better custard apple but you really need to hand pollinate for proper fruit. Without that my fruit set was poor and lopsided.

Genuine plants were hard to find. Buy only named grafted plants from a real source.
