Want to understand atemoya pollination, yield and the premium price it can fetch before investing.

Atemoya usually needs hand pollination for reliable, good-quality fruit because natural pollinators are often not effective, so plan for the labour of pollinating flowers by hand at the right stage, which directly affects fruit set, size and shape. It is grown from grafted plants and starts bearing within a few years. Yields and income vary widely with management, pollination success, climate and the price you get, so no single figure is dependable. The attraction is the premium price atemoya can fetch over ordinary custard apple because of its sweeter taste and fewer seeds, but the market is small and niche, so you may need to develop buyers. Get realistic yield and current premium price ranges for your area from your KVK and from any growers already selling atemoya.
The hand pollination is the make-or-break step. When I do it well the fruit is large and sells at a good premium. Skip it and the fruit is small and ugly.
