Soybean mandi rates are below MSP again this year in Madhya Pradesh. Should I sell now or hold and wait for a better price?

Soybean prices often dip near or below MSP at harvest when arrivals are heavy and global oilseed and edible oil prices are soft, since soybean rates are linked to the wider oil and meal market. Whether to hold depends on your storage quality, cash needs, and the carrying cost of holding, because poorly stored grain loses quality and any price gain. If you can store dry grain safely and do not need urgent cash, staggered selling over a few months can average out the price. Where government procurement under price support is operating, registering to sell at MSP protects the floor. For current MSP, whether procurement is open in your state, and registration, check with your APMC mandi or state agriculture department, since these are official.

The harvest rush is when prices are lowest, because everyone brings stock at once. The years I could hold dry grain and sell in batches over a few months I got a better average. But this only works if you have proper dry storage, otherwise the grain spoils and you lose more than you gain.

When the rate was below MSP I registered for the government procurement and sold a part at the support price, which gave a safe floor. The registration needs your documents ready, so do it early. Check at your mandi whether procurement is actually open in your district this season.
