When rains are late in Nagaur I switch to early bajra and moth bean. They finish fast and survive the dry patches. I always keep some early variety seed ready just in case.

Buy your backup seed early in the season, not after the delay is obvious. When everyone rushes for early bajra and moth seed at the same time, the good seed runs out and prices jump. I keep a bag of early variety stored ready.
