The MSP for barley for rabi marketing season 2025-26 is Rs 1,980 per quintal, an increase of Rs 130 over the previous year. Note that barley MSP applies to the general crop, while malt barley grown on contract for the brewing and malting industry is usually sold at a separately negotiated price under a buy back arrangement, which can be above or below MSP depending on quality and demand. Government barley procurement is limited, so most farmers sell to feed buyers, malt companies or in the open mandi. Keep grain clean, bold and dry to get the best rate. My malt barley contract usually pays more than the plain MSP when the grain meets the malting quality, so I prefer contract over open sale. Feed barley I just sell in the mandi.

There is hardly any government procurement for barley in our area, so the open market and feed buyers set the rate. Bold dry grain always gets a better price.
