Fennel is a long duration rabi crop, so sow from mid September to mid October, as delayed sowing reduces yield. Gujarat Fennel 1 is a good variety, tall and bushy with oblong seeds, tolerant to sugary disease and leaf spot, maturing in roughly 225 days. You can sow direct or transplant 4 to 6 week old seedlings, keeping rows about 45 to 60 cm apart and plants about 30 cm apart since the plants grow large and bushy. Fennel needs cool weather during growth and dry weather at maturity. Apply balanced fertiliser and irrigate at regular intervals, avoiding water stress at flowering. Harvest umbels in stages as they mature since they do not ripen all at once. Confirm notified varieties with your KVK.

Saunf is a long crop, almost the whole rabi and into spring, so plan your field that long. I transplant seedlings to get even stand. Wide spacing because the plant gets big.
