My buffalo gives less milk than expected. How can I improve yield with proper feed and care?

Milk yield mainly improves with balanced feeding and good management, not shortcuts. Give enough green fodder plus dry fodder and a balanced concentrate (the rule of thumb is about 1 kg concentrate for every 2 to 2.5 litres of milk, over the maintenance ration), and always provide a daily mineral mixture and clean water at will, since dehydration drops milk fast. Keep the shed cool and clean, milk at fixed times, and ensure the animal is dewormed and free of mastitis. Make sure the dry period before calving is proper so the next lactation peaks well. Avoid stress and sudden feed changes. For underlying problems, get the animal examined by a veterinary doctor rather than using unverified yield boosters.

Adding mineral mixture daily and giving unlimited clean water made a clear difference in my buffalo's milk. Earlier I was only feeding fodder and grain. Fixed milking times also helped.

Be careful with so-called milk boosting powders sold in shops. I wasted money on them with no real effect, and a couple upset the animal's stomach. The real boosters were green fodder, water, mineral mixture and keeping her cool. Spend there instead.

Bathing my buffalo and keeping a fan in peak summer held her yield up when neighbours dropped. Buffaloes feel heat badly. Shade, a wallow or bath, and cool water are cheap and the milk stays steady through the hot months.
