Curry leaf (kadi patta) is a hardy perennial shrub or small tree, best planted at the start of the monsoon, around June to August, so it establishes with rain. It is propagated from fresh seed, which must be sown soon as it loses viability fast, or from root suckers that come up around mother plants. For a commercial leaf harvest, plant at a close spacing and keep the plants pruned low as a hedge so you get plenty of tender shoots and easy plucking rather than letting them grow tall. It tolerates poor soil and drought once established and bears leaf for many years. Improved high yielding types like DWD 1 (Suvasini) give better leaf yield. Confirm the recommended variety and spacing with your KVK or horticulture office.

Keep them pruned low like a hedge for commercial leaf, you get more tender shoots and pluck easily. If you let them grow tall it is hard to harvest. Suckers from a good plant root easily.

An improved variety like Suvasini gives much more leaf than the wild type. It is a long term crop, bears leaf for years with little care once established, and handles our dry spells well.
