Scampi yield per acre is generally lower than intensive vannamei, but the price for large prawns can be attractive, so income depends mainly on how many big prawns you harvest and the market rate at that time. Survival, growth and how evenly the prawns size up all affect the result, and these vary with seed quality, density and pond management. Because scampi takes a longer single crop, your money is tied up longer than in a quick shrimp crop. Treat any yield or income figure as a range to verify, not a promise. Before investing, get realistic per acre yield and price ranges from scampi farmers in your area and your Fisheries department, and confirm you have buyers who pay a premium for larger sizes.

The money in scampi is in the big sized prawns. A pond full of small ones does not pay. Grading and good management to get larger prawns made the difference for me.
