What yield and price range can I expect from saffron (kesar) per acre?

Dry saffron yield is low by weight but valuable. A well managed mature field has commonly given roughly 1.5 to 3 kg of dry saffron per acre, sometimes less in poor years. Price for genuine Kashmiri Mongra grade has ranged widely, often around 2 to 4 lakh rupees per kg at retail, with farm gate lower, so treat all figures as a range and check current rates. The big costs are corms and the heavy hand labour at flowering and stigma separation. So the headline of lakhs per acre can be real over a few years, but only after the corm investment, the right climate, and years of buildup. Sell graded, well dried saffron and consider GI tagged Kashmir saffron channels for better price. Verify current rates with the Spices Board and local mandi before planning income.
