Planning to buy a tractor but I will need finance. How do tractor loans work and roughly what will the EMI be?

Tractor loans are available from banks, NBFCs and the tractor maker's own finance arm. Typically you pay a down payment (often around 10 to 25 percent of on road price) and the rest is financed over a tenure that commonly runs 3 to 7 years. Interest rates vary a lot by lender, your credit history and whether it is treated as agri credit, so do not trust a single quoted figure. The EMI depends on three things: loan amount, interest rate and tenure. As an illustration only, a longer tenure lowers the monthly EMI but raises total interest paid, while a shorter tenure does the opposite. Many farmers also link tractor finance to their KCC or land records for a better rate. Ask each lender for the exact rate, processing fee, insurance cost and the EMI on paper, and compare the total cost, not just the monthly number. This is general information, confirm actual terms and EMI with the bank or dealer before signing.

I took mine over 5 years. Lower EMI felt easy but I paid a lot of interest overall. If you can manage, a shorter tenure saves money.

Compare bank versus the dealer finance. The dealer offer looked low but had charges added. Get everything in writing.

Ask about the processing fee and the insurance bundled into the loan. Those small add ons raised my total more than I expected.
