After sowing I am left with some bought seed in the bag. Can I keep it for the next season and how should I store the leftover seed?

Leftover bought seed can often be kept for the next season if it is open pollinated and still within its validity date, but hybrid seed loses much of its value if held too long and is best used fresh. To store leftover seed well, reseal the bag tightly or move the seed to a clean, dry, airtight container, keep it in a cool, dry, rodent and insect-free place off the floor, and keep the tag with it so you remember the variety, lot and test date. If it was already chemically treated (coloured) seed, store it separately and clearly labelled, away from food and feed. Before sowing it next season, always run a germination test, because stored seed loses vigour and the lab germination on the old tag may no longer hold. If the validity date has well passed or germination is poor, buy fresh seed instead. Confirm storage life for your specific crop with your KVK.
I kept leftover OPV bhindi seed in an airtight jar and it came up fine next season after a germination test. The test is the key step.
Leftover hybrid I held over once gave weak germination. Now I either use hybrid fully or do not buy extra.
