Vegetables and fruit spoil fast and prices crash when everyone brings them together. What is the best way to sell perishables so I do not lose value?

For perishables, speed, grading and the right channel matter most. Harvest at the correct maturity, grade and pack carefully to reduce bruising, and move produce to market quickly because every day of delay loses quality and rate. Compare nearby mandis and direct outlets, since a glut at one mandi can crash the rate while a city retail tie up, a processor, or supplying through your FPO to a bulk buyer can hold a better price. Selling as a group through an FPO or to a hotel, retailer or processor with a standing demand smooths out the crash you face selling alone in a flooded mandi. Where possible, simple value addition such as cleaning, grading, good packing or basic cold storage for a short hold can raise the rate. Staggering your harvest and sales over days, rather than dumping everything in one glut, also helps. Confirm what direct buyers, cold storage and FPO marketing options exist in your area.
Grading made the biggest difference for us. Buyers pay a clear premium for sorted, well packed produce versus a mixed lot dumped in one heap.
We started supplying graded vegetables directly to a retailer through our group. Steadier rate than the mandi glut, but you must keep quality and timing reliable.
