For off-season coloured capsicum in a naturally ventilated polyhouse around Pune, transplant in July to August so harvesting falls in the higher priced October to March window. Use indeterminate coloured hybrids (yellow, red) and plant on raised beds at about 30 by 45 cm with paired rows, giving roughly 4 to 5 plants per square metre. Train to 2 or 4 stems on plastic twine, deleaf and remove the first king flower, and run drip with fertigation rather than flood. Keep day temperature below 30 to 32 C with ventilation and shade net if needed, since high heat causes flower drop. Confirm hybrid choice, exact fertigation schedule and any polyhouse subsidy with your district horticulture officer or KVK before you start.

I grow yellow and red capsicum in a 1000 square metre polyhouse near Junnar. The coloured fruit fetches much more than green if you can hold the crop, but you must control mites and watch temperature in September or flowers just drop.

I tried the same off-season schedule in a polyhouse near Sangamner. The biggest mistake I made the first year was poor venting, the inside heat in September burnt the flowers, so now I open the side curtains fully by mid morning.

One caution from my experience: do not skip the king flower removal early on. When I left it the plant put energy into one big fruit and stalled, after removing it the plant branched and bore much better.
