Is cluster beans (guar) profitable and what yield and price range can I expect?

Cluster beans (guar) returns depend on the type. Grain or gum guar gives a few quintals of seed per acre on dryland with low inputs, and its price is driven by the guar gum export and industrial demand, which has at times spiked very high and at other times fallen low, so it is a volatile market. Vegetable guar picked fresh gives a moderate tonnage of green pods and a steadier local vegetable rate. Either way guar is a low risk dryland crop that survives drought and improves the soil. Profit can be very good in a high gum demand year for grain guar but do not count on a peak. Check the current guar seed rate and gum market or your vegetable market, and ask your KVK for realistic yields before deciding.
