How do I control corm rot and collar rot in elephant foot yam (suran)?

Collapse at the base with a rotting corm is corm rot or collar rot, the main disease of elephant foot yam, favoured by waterlogging, infected planting material and warm wet soil. Prevent it by selecting healthy disease free corms, treating cut corm pieces with a recommended bio agent like Trichoderma and a fungicide and drying them before planting, and planting on raised ridges or mounds with excellent drainage so water never stands around the corm. Avoid planting in the same plot repeatedly. Remove and destroy affected plants and the rotted corms promptly. A soil drench with a recommended fungicide following the label can help if the disease appears. Confirm the seed treatment and drench recommendations with your KVK.
