How much can a mulberry sericulture unit earn in a year and what are the costs?

Trying to judge the income from mulberry sericulture. With my mulberry and rearing space, what yearly income and main costs should I plan for, honestly?

Treat all figures as ranges. The big advantage of mulberry sericulture is frequent income, because you can take several cocoon crops a year, so a well-run unit generates money through the year rather than once. Your income depends on how many batches you rear, the cocoon weight and quality per batch, the renditta and the cocoon market rate at the time. Main costs are establishing and maintaining the mulberry garden (one-time plus upkeep), the rearing house and equipment, disease-free layings each batch, disinfectants, labour and chawki worms if you buy them. The main risk that wipes out a batch is disease, so disinfection and certified layings are non-negotiable. There are subsidies and support under the Silk Board and state schemes. Build a realistic batch-by-batch budget and confirm current cocoon rates and scheme help with your sericulture department.

The steady cash flow is the real benefit for me in Anantapur, money comes every few weeks instead of once a year. But one diseased batch can wipe out a month of work, so I never skip disinfection.

Mulberry upkeep is a cost people forget. The garden needs water, manure and pruning to keep good leaf coming, and weak leaf means weak cocoons and a lower rate. I spend on the mulberry first.

Buying chawki-reared young worms instead of rearing from egg myself cut my early losses and let me take more batches reliably. It costs a bit but the survival is better.

The department helped me with the rearing shed under a scheme, which lowered my setup cost a lot. Ask your sericulture office before you build, do not pay for everything yourself.
