Be clear eyed about this. The profitable looking breakfast oats market is dominated by processed, often imported food grade oats and by big brands, and the value comes from hulling, rolling, packing and branding, not from raw oat grain. Most Indian oat farmers grow it as fodder and earn a fodder return, which is steady but not a superfood price. To enter the food market you need suitable food grade oat varieties, the right processing to hull and roll the grain, and a buyer, and that processing is the hard and costly part because raw oats need de hulling that most farmers cannot do. There is no MSP for food oats. So realistically, for most farmers oats are a good winter fodder crop, and the breakfast superfood income is captured downstream. Only chase the food market with a processor or contract in place.

I grow oats as fodder for my dairy and it pays through the milk, not as a grain. The packet oats business is a processing and brand game.

Looked into food oats and the hulling step stopped me. Without a processor tie up it is not practical for a small grower.
