Is there market demand for flax seed (alsi) as a health food and what price does it fetch?

Alsi has two markets, the traditional one as an oilseed for oil milling and industrial use, and a growing one as a health food where roasted alsi and alsi powder are sold to health conscious buyers. The food and health demand has lifted interest, but for most farmers the bulk of the crop still moves through the oilseed channel at oilseed prices, which vary with the market and have a wide range. The premium superfood price mostly reaches whoever cleans, roasts, grades and packs the seed, not the raw seller. So the realistic farmer price is closer to the oilseed market rate unless you do value addition or sell graded food grade seed to a health buyer. Check current local rates at your mandi and with traders, and do not assume the retail health food shelf price is what you will get.
