Is Mulethi (Liquorice) farming practical in India and who buys it?

Be realistic about Mulethi, or liquorice. The dried root is in genuine and wide demand for Ayurvedic, food, tobacco and confectionery uses, and much of India's supply is actually imported, which sounds like an opportunity. But it is a long duration crop, the roots typically need around 2 to 3 years to develop, it suits specific warm dry climates with deep sandy loam soil, and good planting material can be hard to source genuinely. There is no open mandi, buyers are specialised traders and processors, and like other medicinal roots it has been mis-sold on buyback. So before planting, source genuine planting material from a reliable institution, confirm an actual buyer and a written price, and be ready to wait years for returns. Verify everything independently. Do not commit a multi year crop on a verbal promise or on glossy import substitution claims alone.
