Bael is a sensible choice for marginal, dry or problem soils where high-value fruits would fail, because it is hardy, low-input and drought-tolerant once established. Grafted improved varieties usually start bearing in around 4 to 5 years and build up over time, with the tree productive for many years. Yields and income vary with variety, soil, water and management, and the market is modest and niche, so do not expect high-value-fruit returns, but it can give a steady supplementary income from land that is otherwise unproductive. Its hardiness and good keeping quality lower the risk. It is more a reliable, low-risk crop than a quick high earner. Verify realistic time to bearing, yields and current prices for your area with your KVK before deciding on the area.

On my poor land nothing else did much, but bael survives and gives a steady crop. It is not big money but it earns from land that was almost useless before.
