I am thinking of selling my tractor and upgrading. How is the resale value of a tractor decided and what should I expect?

Resale value depends on several things and varies by market, so treat any figure as a range, not a fixed price. The main factors are: brand and model popularity (common, in demand models hold value far better than rare ones), age and engine hours, overall condition (engine, transmission, hydraulics, tyres, body), service history and how well it was maintained, accident or major repair history, clean papers with hypothecation cleared, and local demand at the time you sell. A well kept, popular model with clean papers fetches a much better price than a neglected or rare one of the same age. To estimate, compare recent selling prices of similar age and model tractors in your area, check used tractor listings, and ask local dealers. Get a couple of independent valuations rather than relying on the buyer's number.
Popular models really do sell faster and higher. My neighbour's rare brand took months to sell at a low price.
Keep your service records. Buyers paid me more once they saw the tractor was regularly serviced and had clean papers.
