What India exports to Brazil
Import rules and access for Brazil
Brazil regulates food imports through ANVISA (food safety and health) and MAPA (agriculture and plant health). High-level points: product registration or notification with ANVISA for many foods, pesticide MRLs and contaminant limits under ANVISA/MAPA rules, phytosanitary certificates and import permits for plant products, Portuguese-language labelling, and import licensing procedures. Tariffs and bureaucracy can be significant. Limits change; verify current MRLs, registration, certification and labelling with your Brazilian importer, APEDA and ANVISA/MAPA before shipping.
Demand and opportunity
A large market and a major agricultural producer itself, so India's openings are mainly in products Brazil does not grow at scale, such as certain spices, tea, cashew and food ingredients. Import procedures and tariffs add cost and time, so partnering with an experienced local importer is important.
Payment and avoiding scams
Use confirmed LC or secured advance for new buyers and verify the company through Brazilian business registration (CNPJ). Legitimate importers do not ask exporters to prepay agent, customs or release fees; such requests are typical advance-fee fraud.
Practical notes
Brazil produces much of its own food, so demand is concentrated in non-competing items. Portuguese labelling, ANVISA registration and import licensing are common hurdles, and lead times can be long. Confirm product-specific registration needs early.
Import requirements for Brazil change often. Verify current permits, duties, MRLs and labelling with your importer and the Brazil food/plant authority before shipping.
