I want to reduce chemical fungicide use. People recommend Trichoderma for soil and seed treatment. How do I make or use it correctly?

Trichoderma is a beneficial fungus that suppresses several soil and seed borne diseases like wilt and root rot, and it is a useful part of low chemical farming. You normally buy a good quality Trichoderma formulation from a reliable source rather than making the pure culture at home, then multiply it by mixing with well rotted farmyard manure or compost and keeping it moist and shaded for a week or two before applying to soil. For seed treatment, coat seeds with the recommended dose before sowing; for soil, broadcast the enriched compost into the root zone. Apply it to moist soil and avoid mixing it directly with chemical fungicides, which can kill it. Use a fresh, properly stored product within its shelf life. Your KVK or a bio input resource centre can supply quality culture and the correct dose for your crop.

I buy a good Trichoderma product and multiply it in well rotted farmyard manure for about two weeks before mixing into moist soil; my chilli wilt dropped a lot. Apply on damp soil and never mix it with chemical fungicide, which kills it. Fresh product within shelf life matters.

Honest expectation: Trichoderma helps prevent and suppress soil borne disease, it is not a cure once a crop is badly infected. It worked for me as part of healthy soil practice with good compost and rotation, not as a one shot rescue. Apply it regularly and early, keep the soil rich in organic matter, and do not expect a sick standing crop to recover from it alone.

I multiply bought Trichoderma in farmyard manure for a couple of weeks, then mix it into the soil. My wilt problem in chilli dropped a lot. Apply on moist soil and never mix it with chemical fungicide.

For seed treatment I coat the seed with the recommended dose just before sowing, and for soil I broadcast the enriched compost into the root zone. Getting quality culture from the KVK or a bio input centre made the difference; a cheap dead product did nothing. Use the right dose for your crop.
