I want to hold my wheat for a few months for a better price. How do I store it on farm without weevils and rats spoiling it?

Wheat can be stored safely for many months, even over a year, if you get the moisture and the container right. Dry the grain to about 10 to 12 percent moisture (it should crack, not bend, between your teeth) before storage, because damp grain invites weevils and mould. Store in airtight metal bins, hermetic grain bags or well cleaned drums; airtight storage starves insects of oxygen and is the safest chemical free method. Clean the store, plaster cracks, and keep it dry and rat proof. Neem leaves help a little, but airtight storage matters most. Inspect every few weeks for heating or insects. Avoid storing fresh, slightly damp grain in plastic, as it can sweat and spoil.
Airtight steel bins changed everything for me. Earlier I lost grain to ghun every year. Now I dry well in the sun first and the wheat stays clean for months.
I dry my wheat well on a tarpaulin, never on bare ground, and that alone reduced moisture and stones in my grain. Bone dry grain plus a sealed steel bin keeps ghun away for me without any chemical. The drying step is the one most people rush.
For larger quantities I use hermetic grain bags inside my room and they work well and cost less than many bins. The bag must be sealed tight or the airtight effect is lost. Inspect once a month and reseal properly each time you open it.
On holding for a better price, do the math honestly. Storage and a little weight loss have a cost, and the wheat price after harvest does not always climb the way we hope. In some years I held three or four months and the rise barely beat my cost, so I now sell part early and store part. Check your mandi's recent month to month trend before locking up all your grain.
A small caution on neem and other home tricks: they help a little but they do not save damp grain. The year I trusted neem leaves over proper drying I still got ghun because the wheat was not dry enough going in. Dry it bone hard first, then any storage method works much better.
