How do I keep my dairy and poultry farm biosecure to prevent disease spread?

I want to set up basic biosecurity so diseases do not keep entering my dairy and poultry units. What simple steps actually matter?

Biosecurity is just keeping disease out and stopping it spreading, and a few simple habits prevent most outbreaks. Control entry by limiting visitors and vehicles, using a footbath or disinfectant at the gate and shed, and not letting people move between sick and healthy animals without cleaning up. Quarantine any newly bought animals or birds away from the main herd or flock before mixing them, since market purchases are a common way disease enters. Keep feed and water clean and protected from rodents, wild birds and dung contamination, and remove and dispose of dead animals properly rather than leaving them around. Clean and disinfect sheds and equipment between batches, and follow the vaccination schedule from your veterinarian. These low cost steps usually save far more than they cost in lost animals and treatment.

Quarantining new animals before mixing them was the habit that changed things for me. Almost every disease scare I had earlier traced back to a fresh market purchase brought straight into the herd. Now anything new stays separate and gets watched and vet checked first.

A simple footbath at the shed gate and not letting random visitors walk in costs almost nothing and stopped a lot of trouble. People carry infection on their shoes from other farms without realising. I also keep rodents and wild birds away from the feed store, they spread disease too.
