Early cumin seedling collapse is usually damping off plus the start of wilt, both favoured by heavy irrigation, dense sowing and cool moist soil. Do not over irrigate at germination, give light irrigation and let the surface dry between, since cumin hates waterlogging. Use seed treatment before sowing and avoid sowing cumin on the same field every year because soil borne fungi build up. Wider rows and good drainage help air move and dry the surface. Foggy humid weather greatly raises blight and wilt risk later, so plan sprays accordingly. For the seed treatment and any fungicide, dose and interval, follow the product label and your KVK as cumin is sensitive and over spraying can harm it.

In our belt the loss is always worst in the years of heavy dew and cloudy mornings. Light irrigation and not sowing too thick has cut my early death a lot.

I stopped flooding the field at germination and switched to light frequent watering. The surface dries between waterings and the small plants stand much better now. Standing water was killing my stand.

Treating the seed before sowing made a clear difference for me, ask your KVK what is approved this season. Also do not sow jeera on the same plot every year, the fungus builds up and the young plants die more.

Sowing a little thinner so the small plants are not crowded helped my stand. Packed thick they stayed damp at the base and collapsed in rows. A bit more space lets the surface dry and the air move between them.

On the foggy years I lost the most, nothing fixes the weather but light watering and a treated seed gave the seedlings a better chance. Do not panic spray, jeera is touchy and I burnt a crop once with too strong a dose. Check the rate with the KVK first.
