Ginger needs well drained loose soil and raised beds, since rhizome rot and soft rot are driven mostly by waterlogging and infected seed. Plant seed rhizome bits of 20 to 30 g about 4 to 5 cm deep on raised beds or ridges so water drains away fast, never in low spots that hold water. Treat seed rhizome before planting and use only healthy disease free seed, and rotate land rather than growing ginger on the same plot every year. Mulching helps but keep it from staying soggy. For the specific seed treatment chemical, dose and any biocontrol like Trichoderma, follow your KVK recommendation and the product label, as approved options change.

Raised beds saved my crop. Earlier I planted flat and after every big rain the rot spread in patches. High beds plus a drain every few rows made a big difference in Shivamogga clay soil.

Seed selection is half the battle. I now reject any soft or discoloured rhizome bit before planting and only use clean firm seed from a healthy field. The rot was coming in with bad seed earlier without me knowing.

Do not grow ginger on the same patch every year, that was my mistake. After I started rotating the land the rot pressure came down a lot. The fungus builds up in the soil if you repeat the crop.

The seed treatment the KVK gave me, a biocontrol dip before planting, brought my rot down clearly. Treat the seed and dry it in shade before you put it in the bed. Confirm the current product with your KVK because what they recommend keeps changing.
