How to control pod borer in field peas and reduce pod damage?

Pod borer caterpillars feed on pea flowers and bore into pods to eat the developing seeds, leaving holes and excreta that downgrade the produce. Scout from the flowering stage, since damage is set before pods are visible, and use pheromone traps and bird perches to monitor and reduce numbers. Conserve natural enemies and consider biopesticides like recommended Bt or NPV at egg and small larva stage. If chemical spray is needed, target the early larval stage, rotate modes of action and follow the label and pre harvest interval, as peas are eaten fresh. Confirm the product, dose and timing with your KVK, and never spray close to picking.

In Chhindwara my pea pods had borer holes and excreta that downgraded them. Scouting from flowering and using pheromone traps let me act before the pods were even visible.

A point I follow: I use a recommended Bt at the small larva stage and keep bird perches in the field. Since peas are eaten fresh I never spray close to picking and stick to the label interval.
