Pole (climbing) beans yield far more and longer than bush types if trellised, because the vines keep growing and setting pods, and trellising keeps pods clean, straight and easy to pick. Set up bamboo or wire supports about 2 metres tall, or a net trellis between posts, soon after the seedlings start to climb, and guide the vines onto it. Good air flow on a trellis also lowers disease compared with sprawling vines on the ground. Pick pods regularly while tender, since leaving mature pods slows new pod set. Confirm spacing, variety and support type for your area with your KVK or block horticulture officer, as it varies between bush and pole types.

Pole beans on a net trellis give me almost double the picking period of bush beans and the pods stay clean. Picking standing up also saves my back.

A caution from me: pick the pods regularly while tender. The week I let mature pods stay on, new pod set slowed right down, frequent picking keeps the vine bearing.
