Intercropping bajra with a pulse like moth bean, cowpea or arhar spreads risk in dryland because if one crop suffers from a dry spell the other may still give a return, and the legume adds nitrogen to the soil. A common pattern is sowing a few rows of bajra to alternating rows of the pulse, for example a 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 bajra to pulse row ratio, adjusting the legume rows according to rainfall expectation and your main crop. Keep the legume seed rate enough for a real second harvest, not just a token, and weed early. The legume also gives extra fodder and pulse grain, and it covers the soil to reduce moisture loss. Choose short duration drought tolerant varieties of both, and confirm the best row ratio for your rainfall zone with your local KVK.

Bajra with moth bean rows is my standard in a weak monsoon year. If bajra struggles, the moth still gives me something.

In Gujarat I intercrop bajra with cluster bean (guar) the same way, and the guar gives me both fodder and a cash pod crop. Picking the pulse that has a good local market matters as much as the row ratio.

One caution: keep the pulse seed rate proper, not a token, or you get a thin legume that barely yields. The year I sowed too few moth rows the insurance crop hardly helped when bajra was weak.
