Gobindobhog aromatic short grain GI rice premium market West Bengal
4 जवाब
Aromatic short-grain rice like Gobindobhog, which has a GI tag from Bardhaman, fetches a premium when you protect its quality and sell to the right buyers rather than the general mandi. Use authentic seed, keep it separate from coarse paddy at every stage, harvest at correct maturity, dry gently to protect aroma, and avoid mixing. Better prices usually come through FPOs, specialty rice traders, organic or GI-linked buyers, and direct city customers who value the aroma. Value addition like clean grading, attractive small packs and a GI or organic claim raises the rate further. Aromatic types are niche and lower yielding, so target quality and branding instead of competing on bulk volume.
Selling Gobindobhog in 1 and 5 kg packs through our FPO got far more than loose mandi sale. Buyers pay for the smell.
With our Tulaipanji aromatic rice in north Bengal we found city festival season is when demand and price peak, so we hold a little stock for Pujo and Diwali gifting packs. Timing the sale lifted our rate noticeably.
One caution: dry this rice slowly in shade or mild sun, because harsh fast drying on hot cement made my batch lose its smell and the buyer paid plain rice rate. The aroma is the whole value, so protect it.
