There are yellow stripes on lower leaves of my wheat in cold weather. Want to confirm if it is yellow rust.

Yellow (stripe) rust shows yellow-orange powdery pustules arranged in stripes or lines along the leaf veins and appears first in cool, humid weather, often in patches near borders, while leaf (brown) rust appears as scattered round orange-brown pustules without the striping. Rub a finger on the leaf, yellow rust leaves a yellow powder. For control, propiconazole or tebuconazole based triazole fungicides are commonly recommended at the first sign, repeated if needed, but always follow the product label dose, pre-harvest interval and your KVK recommendation. Grow resistant varieties for your zone and scout fields from the early heading stage onwards.

Last winter yellow rust started in one corner of my field. I sprayed quickly and stopped the spread. Catching it early is key.

In our foothill area near Pathankot yellow rust always comes first, because the cool damp mornings suit it. I make a habit of walking the field borders and the shaded patches every few days from January, since that is where I always spot the first yellow streaks before it jumps into the main field.

One mistake I made early on was confusing the harmless yellow tips from cold or nitrogen shortage with rust. The finger-rub test the team mentioned is the real check, if yellow powder comes off on your finger it is rust, if the leaf is just pale with no powder it is something else. Saved me an unnecessary spray once.
