You can manage paddy stubble (parali) without burning by either incorporating it into the soil or sowing wheat directly through it. In-situ options include using a Happy Seeder or Super Seeder to sow wheat into standing or chopped stubble, mulching with the Super SMS attachment on the combine, or incorporating residue with a mulcher and rotavator, which adds organic matter and saves a little fertiliser over time. A microbial decomposer spray (such as the Pusa decomposer) speeds breakdown of the straw. Ex-situ options include baling the straw to sell for fodder, mushroom, paper, or biomass energy. Burning is banned, fined, and damages soil microbes and air quality. Check current state subsidies on CRM machinery through your agriculture department.

We switched to a Super Seeder two seasons back. First year was a learning curve but no burning, and the wheat came up fine with good moisture in the straw mulch.

Renting the machinery through a custom hiring centre or our cooperative made sense, since buying a Happy Seeder alone is costly for one farm. A few of us share the same machine across our fields.

Baling the straw and selling it turned my stubble from a problem into a small income. A baler contractor cleared the field and the straw went to a nearby biomass and fodder buyer.

If you incorporate the straw, allow a little time and moisture for it to start breaking down before heavy reliance on it, and a decomposer spray helps. Do not cut nitrogen too sharply the first season since fresh straw can briefly tie up some nitrogen; adjust the dose to your soil test and KVK advice.
