Weevils and bugs crawling in my stored wheat, how do I save it now?

The brown insect you see is almost certainly the rice weevil or grain weevil, and it breeds inside the grain so the visible bugs are only part of the problem. First, act fast before numbers explode in warm weather. Take the affected grain out into strong sunlight on a clean sheet for a few hours; many adults will leave the hot grain and you can also sieve out broken kernels and powdery dust, which is where most eggs and young stages sit. Second, dry the grain properly. Weevils thrive in damp grain, so sun drying to a safe dry condition (most cereals are considered safe at roughly 10 to 12 percent moisture for longer storage) is the single most useful step. Third, move the cleaned, dried grain into a sealed airtight container or a hermetic bag and pack it full with little air space, because these insects need oxygen and an airtight seal slowly kills them without any chemical. Clean the old bin or drum thoroughly, since cracks hold hidden eggs. If you want to use any fumigant tablet, understand that products like aluminium phosphide are hazardous and restricted, and must only be used by a trained or authorised person following the label and safety rules.
