Soybean weed control works best as a two-step plan because the early weeks decide your yield. As a pre-emergence step within 2 to 3 days of sowing on a moist field, a pendimethalin-based spray controls many grasses and some broadleaf weeds before they come up. For post-emergence at about 15 to 25 days, the choice depends on what weeds you have: grass-killer types like quizalofop or fenoxaprop handle grassy weeds, while imazethapyr covers both grasses and many broadleaf weeds in soybean. Ready-mix products are also sold for soybean to cover the mixed flush. Spray on a moist field when weeds are small, in the full label water volume with a flat-fan nozzle. Use only herbicides recommended for soybean, follow the product label dose and timing, and confirm with your local KVK, because the wrong herbicide can kill the crop. Also keep one inter-cultivation or hand weeding in mind as backup if weeds escape.

In Ujjain I do pendimethalin right after sowing and then imazethapyr around three weeks when I see the next flush. That combination kept my soybean clean.

Identify your weeds before buying. If it is mostly grasses, a grass killer is enough and cheaper. I wasted money once buying a broad product when I only had grassy weeds.

Whatever you pick, spray on a moist field with weeds small. On a dry field my post-emergence spray did almost nothing.
