Linseed (alsi) is a rabi oilseed sown from October to November on conserved soil moisture, often on rice fallows as a utera or relay crop. Choose the type by purpose: seed types bred for oil and the omega rich seed now in demand, dual purpose types where both seed and some fibre matter, and fibre flax which is a different management. For most growers in central India it is grown for the seed and oil. It is hardy, needs few inputs and little water, suiting rainfed and residual moisture conditions. Sow on time so it matures before the heat. Confirm the recommended variety and exact window for your area with your KVK, as seed and dual purpose recommendations differ.

I sow alsi on the rice fallow on the leftover moisture, almost no extra water. It is a low cost crop. Pick a proper seed type, the demand for the healthy oil seed has grown.
