Green chilli for the fresh market can be grown in more than one season. The main kharif crop is transplanted in June to July, a rabi crop in October to November, and a summer crop where water is assured. Raise a healthy nursery under net to keep early sucking pests and virus away, and transplant 35 to 45 day old seedlings. Spacing of about 60 by 45 cm suits many hybrids, with wider spacing for vigorous types so air moves and disease stays low. Staggered planting helps spread your fresh picking and income. Nursery under a net is the single best thing for green chilli. It keeps the leaf curl pests off the young plants. Transplant in the evening and the seedlings settle without wilting.
