What yield and price range does jute (pat) give and is it profitable?

Jute fibre yield depends heavily on stand, retting and variety, with a well managed crop giving a good number of quintals per acre but a poorly retted crop losing both weight and grade. Jute has an MSP, and the rate you actually get depends on your fibre grade, so clean bright fibre earns far more than dark damaged fibre. Profit is moderate and the retting labour and water access are the key constraints, so it suits farmers who have good retting water nearby. Check the current jute MSP and your local mandi or Jute Corporation purchase rate before deciding, and ask your KVK for realistic local yields. Do not assume top grade prices for an average crop.
