A commercial lab needs a clean room or laminar air flow cabinets, autoclave, media preparation area, growth room with controlled light and temperature, glassware, chemicals, and reliable power and water, and the cost typically runs into many lakhs even for a modest lab, with larger production labs costing far more. Beyond setup, it demands trained technicians, strict sterile technique, and a hardening or primary nursery to acclimatise the tiny plantlets before sale. The economics can work because tissue culture plants like banana, certain fruits, ornamentals and some commercial crops sell at a premium for being uniform and disease-free, and demand exists. But the failure risk is real, contamination can ruin batches, and you need volume and assured buyers to cover the fixed cost. Some horticulture and biotech schemes support such labs. This is a serious enterprise needing capital, technical expertise and a market. Study working labs, get the real costs, and confirm any subsidy with your state horticulture or biotech department before committing.
