Buy pangasius fingerlings from a reputed registered hatchery or nursery that supplies healthy, uniform size and disease free seed, since uneven or weak seed leads to poor and uneven growth in a dense pond. Look for active fingerlings of consistent size and avoid very cheap unknown seed. Transport and stock them carefully with proper acclimatisation to reduce stress and early mortality. Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal have well known pangasius seed sources, but check for approved hatcheries near you to cut transport stress and cost. Your state Fisheries department can provide a list of registered hatcheries and advise on the right fingerling size to stock for your pond and season.

Uniform sized fingerlings from a known nursery gave me a much more even harvest. The cheap mixed size seed I tried once grew very unevenly and was harder to sell.
