Who buys cocoa beans in India and is there a buyback arrangement?

Cocoa in India has a relatively organised buyer side because chocolate and cocoa processing companies and their agents purchase wet or dried beans, and in some areas companies offer planting material and buying tie ups with growers. This is a real advantage over many minor crops. However, you must verify the buyback terms carefully, the price basis, whether they buy wet beans or only properly fermented and dried beans, quality cuts, and how payment is made, before relying on it. Prices follow international cocoa rates and can vary. Talk directly to the buying company or their field staff and to other growers in your area who already supply them, and keep any agreement in writing. Do not assume a fixed guaranteed price unless it is clearly stated.
