high cold dry areas, can pista work there as a trial, anyone tried

Cold dry high altitude pockets are the only zones in India where pistachio has even a theoretical chance, because they can provide the winter chilling and dry summer it needs. Some research and trial plantings have been attempted in such areas, but there is no proven, profitable commercial pistachio belt in India to copy. Even where the climate roughly fits, you face long years to bearing, the need for separate male and female trees for pollination, and almost no local processing or buyer network. So treat it strictly as an experimental trial under guidance from a research institute, not as a main income crop. Speak to the regional horticulture research station before investing, and do not rely on private sellers promising returns.
Up here even apple and dry fruits do well but pista is a different thing. I have not seen anyone here make money from it. If you try, keep it to a few plants only.
