Marigold for lutein and xanthophyll pigment extraction is a contract or industry linked crop, different from loose flower marigold sold for garlands. Extraction companies want specific high pigment African marigold hybrids that are rich in carotenoids, and they usually supply or specify the variety and buy back the flowers, often as fresh or dried flower meal, for processing into lutein used in poultry feed and nutraceuticals. The key difference from garland marigold is that you are paid on flower volume and pigment content for the factory, not on looks for the festival market, and the deal usually runs on a buyback contract. Because it is contract driven, the safety depends entirely on the agreement, so before signing check the buyback price, who supplies seed, quality and rejection terms, and payment timing, and verify the company's track record with other growers and your KVK. Do not plant the extraction hybrid without a confirmed buyer, since it is not a garland market crop.

The company gave us the seed and bought back the flowers here. Read the buyback terms carefully, especially the rejection and price clauses, that is where growers get caught. Talk to farmers who already did a season with them.

It is not the same as garland marigold, the buyer cares about pigment, not flower beauty. Without the contract there is no open market for these flowers, so the agreement is everything.
